Vintage Mahal Persian Rug

A deep midnight-navy background is covered with big, loose flowers, leaves, and branches in coral, blush, butter yellow, cream, and little hints of teal. The flowers are drawn large and spread out, with lots of open space between them, and that’s the Mahal style. Weavers around Arak scaled the traditional Persian floral patterns way up so they’d read well in big rooms. If you look closely, the navy shifts slightly in a few bands across the rug. That’s called abrash, and it comes from wool dyed in small batches, so it gives the background a soft, lived-in depth. A rust-red border with big blooms and a cream vine stripe frames it all, and the pile is still thick and in great shape.

Size: 9'6 x 6'8

Material: Wool pile on cotton foundation
