Vintage Anatolian Turkish Rug
The pile on this one is thick and shaggy, so it feels great under bare feet. The whole background is a grid of little diamonds in coral, kelly green, chartreuse, navy, chocolate, mint, lilac, and butter yellow, each outlined in thin black lines. Along the edges, the grid bends and curves a bit, and you can tell the weaver was making up the layout as she went instead of following a drawing. That loose, improvised approach is a hallmark of village weaving in central Turkey, and it’s what keeps this rug feeling so cheerful and relaxed. A plain raspberry-red border wraps around the whole thing, and the colors are still bright.
