Vintage Sumak Persian Rug
A bubblegum-pink lattice runs across this whole rug, splitting it into rows of mustard-gold panels. Inside each panel is a plum octagon with a big star-shaped flower outlined in denim blue. Tiny lime-green and pink details are stitched in all over, so there’s more to see the closer you get. Sumak is a flatweave: the weaver wraps colored yarn around the threads instead of tying knots, which is why the surface looks almost braided and the drawing comes out so crisp. That technique also leaves loose yarn ends on the back, and they’re totally normal. A plum border with blue flowers and little hooked shapes frames it all. It’s thin and lies flat, so it works well under furniture or a dining table.
Size: 11'7 x 6'10 (not including fringe)
Material: Wool pile on cotton foundation
All rugs have been professionally cleaned and restored. Age related wear and patina are considered normal. Items may not be perfectly straight or rectangle.
Rugs have been photographed in moderate to bright natural light. Colors may vary depending on the amount of light in your space or due to your phone/screen settings.
Vacuum on low with the brush roller off. Spot clean with warm water and mild soap when life happens. Professional clean as needed.
