Vintage Taspinar Turkish Rug

This rug has a bright cherry-red background with a long navy panel down the middle. The panel is sprinkled with tiny cream and red flowers, little orange diamonds, and a starburst right at the center. Navy corners cut in at an angle, and each end holds a row of red tulip shapes, so the whole layout has a lot of bold, blocky contrast. Taspinar is a village near Aksaray known for exactly this combination of red, navy, and gold, and weavers there tended to keep the big shapes simple and then fill in all the small spaces with little florals. A wide mustard border with flowers and vines frames it all, and the colors are still rich and saturated.
