Vintage Turkish Anatolian Rug, Central/Eastern Turkey, Mid-20th Century
A slate-blue ground sets this Anatolian rug apart, framing a hexagonal ivory medallion filled with delicate vine-and-blossom scrollwork rather than the more common geometric center field. Small cruciform florets scattered through the field on connecting lines are a device you'll see repeated in Anatolian village weaving, often read as protective or eye-warding symbols passed down through a weaving family's own visual vocabulary. The wide, richly patterned border in gold, burgundy, and blue adds a lot of visual weight for a piece this size, and the wool shows a nice worn-in softness with even color throughout.
