Vintage Turkish Anatolian Rug, Southeastern Turkey, Mid-20th Century
The stepped, zigzag-edged medallion here is a signature of the Anatolian weaving tradition out of southeastern Turkey, and the unusual seafoam green and periwinkle-blue palette against a faded blush-pink field sets it apart from the more common red-and-navy Anatolian pieces. Small geometric emblems scattered through the corner spandrels and border are typical protective devices found in Turkish village weaving, often specific to the family or region that produced the piece. The color has softened into a lovely muted, almost pastel range with age, and wear is light and even for a piece of this vintage.
