Vintage Anatolian Runner, Turkey, Mid-20th Century
This runner marches through an alternating rhythm of star-cross medallions and rectangular panels down a warm taupe-brown field, a compartmentalized layout typical of Anatolian tribal weaving. What makes it stand out is the palette — soft mint, dusty rose, and periwinkle in place of the deeper reds and blues you’d usually expect, giving the whole thing an unusually soft, almost candy-colored presence for a piece with this much geometric structure. Small octagonal florets fill the space between medallions, a classic device from Turkish village weaving. Wear is present but even, and the color has held onto that gentle pastel quality throughout.
