Vintage Persian Bidjar Rug, Kurdistan Province, Northwest Iran, circa Mid 20th Century

A soft coral-pink field, dense with tiny diamond and floral lattice work, gives this piece an unusually bright, romantic presence — the color has stayed vivid rather than fading toward dusty mauve. A large, stepped ivory medallion anchors the center, with olive-brown corner spandrels and a matching wide border grounding the composition. Bidjar rugs are known for their exceptionally dense, heavy weave — sometimes called the “iron rugs of Persia” for how tightly the wool is packed — which gives this piece real substance and durability underfoot.
